Geotechnical Inspectors
Areas of Qualification


1.  Technician: conducts compaction testing on graded sites.  Is knowledgeable in reading topographic maps, drainage and grading maps, Soils Reports and understands code requirements.  As completed course in radiation safety.


2.  Site Grading Inspector: conducts site grading observations.  Is
knowledgeable in complex issues related to soils and rock as building
materials.  Understands the science of fill materials and testing methods


3.  Geotechnical Field Professional: understands soil and rock drilling, sampling and testing methods, handling of soil and rock samples, preparation of boring logs, identification/classification of soil and rock samples, communication/coordination with drillers and designers, safety issues, borehole sealing, groundwater level determination.


4.  Deep Foundations Inspector: conducts inspection items for Driven Pile and Drilled Shaft foundation construction and load testing. 


5.  Earth Retaining Walls Specialist: inspects items relating to the construction of earth retaining systems including: Mechanically Stabilized Earth Walls, CIP Retaining Walls, Crib Walls, Bin Walls, and Gabion Walls.


6.  Embankments/Cut Slopes/Reinforced Soils Slopes (RSS): inspection of items related to the construction of Earth Embankments (soil and rock), Cut Slopes and Reinforced Soil Slopes.


7.  Anchored/Soil-Nail Walls Inspector: inspects items for the construction of ground anchors (tiebacks), deadman anchors and soil nail wall systems.
